FAQs on new GP CPD Requirements

What are CPD Hours?

The Medical Board of Australia’s new CPD Registration Standard has changed in 2023.  Each calendar year you will need to record 50 hours of CPD across different activity types.

How many CPD Hours is the face-to-face course at ACannabis ‘A practical guide to prescribing medicinal cannabis in Australia.’ ?

Our course is held only on Day 1 of the conference and will go for 8 hours, which equates to 8 CPD hours of ‘educational activity’.

How many CPD Hours is the online portion of the course?

There are five modules within the online course, which totals 7 hours. The online modules of the course are self-paced with a focus on medical cannabis for chronic pain – there is a short quiz at the end of each module.

How do I claim these CPD hours?

You will be able to self-claim these CPD hours with your relevant CPD home. We will supply a certificate of attendance as proof after the face-to-face course and the course will come under "education activity" hours.   Similarly, you will receive a certificate after Module 5 of the online course, which can be used as evidence when submitting CPD hours to your CPD Home, and will fall under “reviewing performance”.

Who has accredited the course?

In the past this course was hosted by ANZCCP and was previously awarded 40 CPD points by the RACGPs. With the new CPD arrangements, this year, you will now self-claim the CPD hours to your CPD home as opposed to your educational organisation adding the hours.

How do I find out more?

Please see the Medical Board of Australia’s website for further details about CPD requirement for medical practitioners.
